I mainly play indie games now, and lots of them have been more memorable than many AAA games I have played in the nba 2k21 mt past.
Sure, it's easy to say that now. Or even at $30 with all the content it currently has?
There would have been a huge outrage on the internet and it would have sold extremely poorly. But that version is finished.
Nobody will pay whole price for games like that anymore, as sad as this is. Games like it have become sadly forced to be created through indie development or otherwise just never exist.
Desire a recent case? Bloodstained. A match that largely did fairly well and didn't disappoint. Nevertheless the general consensus for this was that it's original asking price (and present non-sale cost ) of $40 was largely seen as overly expensive.
When? I'm too young to know, but Hollow Knight was made by 2 people and it had been kickstarted. Even 20 years ago I doubt you can consider this an AAA release beyond its robust amount of content and polished gameplay.

That doesn't leave a good impression and hurts your own brand in the long run. Their match sold fairly well, but if they had been honest from the beginning or requested to get a lower asking price the match could have ended up more popular, which might mean more sales.
